In the last few days or so I have been compiling this list of forums that give out lots of link juice.
What is that ?
Any experienced forum poster already knows that one of the benefits of posting in forums is the fact that they allow forum signatures to be attached under each of your posts. The forum signatures can in theory contain links to sites that you choose. But not all forums, forum administrators rather, treat signatures the same. Some limit the number of links you can have in them, some will put a nofollow in them, some will not even let you have a signature ...
Table explanation
Let me just explain a little bit of what each column below mean. Alexa is the Alexa ranking of the the forum in order to judge if the forums has enough visibility. The PR (pagerank) can in turn affect the pagerank your signature links might acquire in the future. Links limit column displays the limit imposed on the number of links you can have in your signature. The next column Active displays if there is a minimum amount of posts needed to be posted before one is allowed to edit their signature links. NF (NoFollow) column means if the links are assigned a "rel=nofollow" in which case no link juice is actually passed (forum owner is not vouching for any of the links of his forum users). RSS feed is a way to get an extra link to your blog in which case in the options of your profile you can provide the RSS feed of your blog and the latest post will always be linked from your every post.
Forum | Alexa | PR | links limit | Active | NF | RSS Feed |
Digital point forums | 140 | 6 | 4 | 10 | NO | YES |
sitepoint forums | 447 | 7 | 10 1 | 1 | NO | NO |
webmaster world | 481 | 8 | 0 | N/A | N/A | NO |
warrior forum | 602 | 5 | 10 1 | 1 | NO 2 | NO |
V7n forums | 1020 | 6 | 2 | 50 | NO | YES |
SEO Chat forums | 1173 | 5 | 10 1 | 30 | NO/YES3 | NO |
web hosting talk forum | 1745 | 6 | 2 | 50 | NO | NO |
name pros | 1868 | 5 | 10 1 | 1 | NO | YES |
DNForum | 2491 | 5 | 1 ? | 1000/$$ 4 | NO | NO |
Daniweb forums | 4907 | 6 | 10 1 | 1 | YES | NO |
webmaster talk forums | 5131 | 6 | 10 1 | 1 | NO | YES |
kirupa forum | 8480 | 5 | 10 1 | 1 | NO | |
Web Talk Forums | 30829 | 4 | 3 | 1 | NO | YES |
webdigity | 43825 | 5 | 10 1 | 1 | NO | YES |
MK Pit Stop, the Computer Webmaster Gaming Console Graphics Forum | 144939 | 4 | 3 | 1 | NO | YES |
searchen networks forum | 163976 | 5 | 4 | 1 | NO | NO |
Notes:
1: no real limit on the number of links but limit on number of characters per line usually allows up to 10 links
2: can't choose anchor text
3: first link is normal, rest of links are "NoFollow"ed
4: can actually pay for activation of your signature (not sure about this)?
This list is by no means comprehensive and the stats and details gathered might change over time.
If you have found something that is indeed out of order or you want to add your own/favorite forum in the list please post it in a comment below along with some of the statistics
Happy posting ...

GiogosK - Thanks, for this.
I've been collecting a number of forums/chat boxes but I have not yet gone through and done a page rank/Alexa analysis yet as to which ones are the best.
I'll do that and post back here what ones are good.
Thank you very much for sharing.

GiogosK - thanks for the info. Just wondering though, do backlinks in forums on the subject of SEO for example, give just as good creedance with google for a link to a site to do with florida vacation homes. Or is it better if it's a relevant subject?
Steve
Submitted by Giorgos on
@Steve, its always better to have links from relevant sites, but its not always easy to find them ... or for those sites to find your site and link to you ... thus, for free links forum signatures do a good enough job to be worth considering ...

We have built about 4000 links in two months. Do you think that Google will punish us for building links that fast? Or do you think that is not nearly enough for Google to notice?
Submitted by Giorgos on
Paul, If google were to find them all at once then maybe there would be a problem but since its going to take some time before they get discovered .... I would not worry ....

On my site forum I let members post a link in the links section, and have a signature. I know how hard it is to get your links out there!

I see that some of the page ranks have gone..There is a rumor that google is doing something different with page ranking. Some web sites have dropped to zero page rank from 5 or 6.

When I first saw this post I went to most of these forums and created a signature and got the backlinks. That was great!!!
But you wouldn't believe what I have learnt at these forums.
Thanks for helping my site along as I would never have thought that forums could make such an impact on my SEO.

forums with a high page rank generally only have high PR for homepage and *directly* linked pages..actual forum posts generally have PR0, which doesn't provide that much juice at all. one must bare in mind in is the PR of the actual page the link is on that gets passed not the PR of the sites homepage

HHC is a forum for webmasters to get help with site building issues, etc. 2000 to 3000 visitors per day and good PR. I don't use nofollow on signature links and welcome anyone who wants to participate on the site with the benefit of having links in their signature. The big issue with me is that this is no problem as long as my site is not abused. Participate in a real way and we can help each other. Post in a spammy fashion and you can expect your posts to be removed and account probably banned. I feel it's a fair trade-off. Check the forum out at http://www.htmlhelpcentral.com

I'm totally new to this, so thanks for a great and informative article. I'd just like to clarify one thing so I can make the most sense of the list: So a site with no nofollow rules are sites that allow the link to follow through to the site in the signature? In other words, the sites with a NO in the NF column are preferable to the ones with a YES?
Submitted by Giorgos on
Yes that is correct MIKE
NO in the NF column means link juice passed to your links ...
Submitted by intospain (not verified) on
Seems to be more and more forums going nofollow, however - you are welcome to visit ours - http://www.intospain.com/ we do not have nofollows.
I believe that every human link counts as you have had to work for it, so it will never happen on any of my sites :D

Very interesting article, but why the list is so short? Is it possible to find more high ranked forums for promotion. Presently i make some research and going to make a list of 100 - 300 of greatest forums... If you are interested in here some site for the most ranked forums...
h**p://rankings.big-boards.com
Submitted by Giorgos on
The list is short because I did not have in mind to create an exchaustive list ... because of time constraints. What I look for in a forum is presented thus anyone can create their own list ...

Hi guys i really enjoyed reading your discussions and by the way thanks for giving some nofollow-free forums which I might join and participate with.

Thanks for collecting forums list with useful details of each one and sharing with us.
I am just planning a strategy to post atleast 10 posts in any forum every day regularly.
That way I can get 300 backlinks in a month with little effort every day..

this is one of the moste effective SEO techniques. however some administrators erase comments that are obviously spam, comments like "hey this is interestign information" shows that the "link builder" didin't even read the article or discussion, so it's something that I consider "ethical" to ask the administrator to post your link but in return the less you can do is saying something valuable.

I think a lot of the forums that I have been on recently have fallen away and the owners of the forums have simply given up on maintaining them - they do look a lot more spammy these days and I for one think they are not as good as they once were.
